Make transparency the default: Even after years of attending Commission meetings, understanding the intricacies of official processes and language is a barrier to public engagement.
Residents should not need to become experts in government procedure to understand what their city is doing.
Here’s what I’ll push for as your Commissioner:
- Make budgets, major contracts, development proposals, and supporting documents easier to find and understand.
- Publish plain-language explanations of major Commission decisions.
- Improve public dashboards for finances, development, capital projects, and strategic priorities.
- Make public information available earlier in the decision-making process, such as by initiating budget discussions in the spring rather than under a tight deadline.
